Slowly the terrain changed from dusty, sandy lowland desert to rock-crusted hills and scrub grass. Light cool wind rustled the dry grass and stirred up the dust their passing raised. Once they startled several wild deer that went bounding away through the tall bunchgrass. Wind whistled through the higher crags and blew away the foul city smells.
They were traveling north into the mountains, gaining altitude as they went. Behind, the valley spread like a map with roads, fields, rivers and cities marked out while ahead the tip of a white tower rose above yellow hills. At first it was small and distant but as the afternoon wore on it

Sounds from beyond the gap lessoned with each passing moment. Raiders came through in groups carrying captive women and children. Blood dripped from their sabers, hung naked on leather-clad hips. Three more crying children, two girls and a boy, were tossed into the wagon and the heavy door was chained shut behind them.
A pair of stout oxen drew the wagon down the dirt road. Five more ox carts filled with captives came behind them while Raiders, some mounted on long-legged horses or feral dragons, formed up beside it. Several of them led riderless beasts and horses and many were wounded in some way, if only by the scratching finge

My mom and I made a lot of yuebing (moon cakes) for the Mid-Autumn Festival (last friday, I think) last week and the week before.

I think we made around 200- 300, but not the big knd in the pic above.

Somebody ordered about 180 of them from us, but we made a lot of test ones first.

Inside we put either red bean paste, pineapple stuff, or taro paste stuff. ^w^

yum! I like the red bean paste filling.

I dont like the salted duck egg filling though. I dont like eggs!

I've never had a mooncake, but they look delicious! Sweet? Pefectly browned and a beautiful decoration. The photo is good enough for a magazine.
